Following the 2nd Missionary Journey of Paul & the Rise of Christian Faith in Europe

From the ancient Roman roads of Philippi to the alpine valleys of Switzerland, this pilgrimage invites believers to walk through the living story of faith — tracing the footsteps of Apostle Paul’s second missionary journey, when the Gospel first crossed into Europe, through the birth of the early church and the Reformation that reshaped Christian history. More than sightseeing, this sacred journey blends Scripture, Christian heritage, and breathtaking landscapes, allowing travelers to reflect where faith took root, stand where generations held firm to the Gospel, and be inspired to carry its message forward. Designed for Bible-believing travelers seeking a deeper walk with God, this experience is not just about seeing history — it is about living it.

Itinerary

Pre-Tour: TUESDAY Sept 15thDEPARTURE FROM MANILA

Turkish Airlines Flight: TK85 MNL–IST 21:25–04:50 (+1) Today, we embark on a faith-filled journey tracing the path of Apostle Paul across the Mediterranean world and beyond. As you board your flight to Thessaloniki via Istanbul, take time to pray and dedicate this pilgrimage — that it may deepen your understanding of God’s Word and renew your passion for His calling.

Day 01: WEDNESDAY Sept 16thPHILIPPI – THESSALONIKI (GREECE)

Upon arrival in Thessaloniki, we begin our pilgrimage in northern Greece, where the Gospel first entered Europe (Acts 16). We journey to Philippi, where Paul preached, lived, and was imprisoned, and where he baptized Lydia, Europe’s first convert. Together we explore the ancient Forum, Basilica, and the prison where Paul and Silas sang hymns at midnight. We continue to Kavala, formerly known as ancient Neapolis — Paul’s historic landing port from Troas on the Thracian coast, where he, Timothy, and Silas first set foot in Europe after receiving the vision of the Macedonian man. Returning to Thessaloniki, we visit the House of Jason, the Agora, the White Tower, and the Arch of Galerius (time permitting), reflecting on how Paul’s message stirred both revival and persecution (Acts 17:1–9). We close our first day inspired and expectant for the journey ahead. Overnight in Thessaloniki.

Day 02: THURSDAY Sept 17thBEREA – METEORA

We visit Berea (Veria), where the Apostle Paul’s message inspired a people “more noble” who examined the Scriptures daily (Acts 17:11). We see Paul’s Bema, the Barbouta Jewish Quarter, and the Ancient Synagogue, walking in the footsteps of those early believers. From there, we journey to the stunning Meteora Monasteries, including Great Meteoron and Varlaam, perched atop towering rocks — a lasting testimony to centuries of faith. While Paul never visited Meteora, these monasteries reflect the enduring legacy of the Gospel he first preached. Overnight in Kalambaka.

Day 03: FRIDAY Sept 18thDELPHI – ATHENS

We travel to Delphi to explore the archaeological site and museum, contrasting the pagan oracles with Paul’s proclamation of the one true God. We then continue to Athens for an orientation, enjoying a panoramic drive and stroll past the Presidential Palace, Parliament, Constitution Square, Panathenaic Stadium, and the historic Plaka–Monastiraki districts. Paul was “greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols” (Acts 17:16), yet Athens became the stage for one of his boldest Gospel declarations. Overnight in Athens.

Day 04: SATURDAY Sept 19thCORINTH – ATHENS

We visit Ancient Corinth to explore the archaeological site, Paul’s Bema, the Erastus Inscription (Romans 16:23), and the Corinth Canal, remembering that Paul ministered here for 18 months (Acts 18:1–18). Back in Athens, we stand on Mars Hill (Areopagus), where Paul boldly declared the “unknown God” (Acts 17:16–34), and explore the Acropolis and Parthenon — enduring symbols of human wisdom meeting divine truth. Paul’s mission in Athens and Corinth marked a turning point, as the Gospel leapt from Jerusalem to the cultural heart of Europe. Overnight in Athens.

Day 05: SUNDAY Sept 20thMALTA – RABAT – MDINA

We take an early morning check-in at Athens Airport for our flight to Malta (A3 730, 07:35–08:15). From Greece, Paul journeyed toward Rome, but God used even a shipwreck in Malta to advance His mission. Upon arrival, we trace the footsteps of Apostle Paul after his shipwreck. In Rabat, we visit St. Paul’s Grotto and reflect on God’s power to bring grace from suffering. In the medieval city of Mdina, we explore St. Paul’s Cathedral and walk the historic streets, celebrating how faith flourished through hardship and hospitality. Though a prisoner, Paul became God’s messenger in Malta — healing, preaching, and spreading faith across the island (Acts 28:1–10). Overnight in Malta.

Day 06: MONDAY Sept 21stVALLETTA – THE THREE CITIES

We continue our exploration of Malta’s Christian heritage and breathtaking landscapes. We begin at the Blue Grotto viewpoint, admiring the sparkling waters that once carried missionaries of the Gospel. In Valletta, we visit St. John’s Co-Cathedral, Barrakka Gardens, and the Grand Harbor, where faith and beauty meet. In the historic city of Birgu, we tour Fort St. Angelo, reflecting on Christian perseverance through the ages. The day concludes with a one-hour sunset harbor cruise around Valletta and the Three Cities, followed by dinner at the waterfront. God turned Paul’s shipwreck into a mission, and Malta became a light for the Gospel throughout the Mediterranean. Overnight in Malta.

Day 07: TUESDAY Sept 22thROME – THE ETERNAL CITY

We take an early morning flight from Malta to Rome (KM 612, 07:00–08:35). In his letters to the Romans, the Apostle Paul expressed his desire to visit them, yet he ultimately arrived in Rome as a prisoner — a reminder that God’s purposes prevail. Upon arrival, we explore the heart of the Eternal City, visiting the Colosseum, infamous for gladiator games and Christian executions, and Circus Maximus, the vast stadium from Nero’s era that once hosted chariot races. We walk through the Roman Forum, the center of ancient political and religious life, and see the Arch of Titus, commemorating Rome’s victory over Judea. We continue to the Mamertine Prison, where Peter and Paul were believed to have been held, then travel along the Appian Way to San Sebastiano’s Catacombs, the resting place of early Christians. We conclude at St. Paul’s Cathedral, reflecting on the apostle’s ministry and enduring legacy. As Acts 28 reminds us, when Paul reached Rome — the center of power — the Gospel was not bound, but spread throughout the empire. Overnight in Rome.

Day 08: WEDNESDAY Sept 23rdVATICAN CITY – IMPERIAL ROME

Today we explore how Christian faith transformed the heart of the Roman world. We visit the Vatican Museums, home to priceless works of art, and the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo’s restored frescoes reflect faith expressed through beauty. In St. Peter’s Basilica, we stand at the tomb of the Apostle Peter and admire masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Pietà, remembering how the message of Christ reached the seat of global influence. We continue to Tre Fontane Abbey, traditionally linked to Paul’s martyrdom, then stroll through Rome’s iconic landmarks — Via del Corso, Piazza di Spagna, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona — enjoying gelato as we take in the city’s living history. As Paul’s witness reminds us, the Gospel reached the very heart of worldly power, revealing “the power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Cor. 1:23–24). Overnight in Rome.

Day 09: THURSDAY Sept 24thPISA – CINQUE TERRE

Our journey north continues as we travel via Pisa to admire the world-famous Leaning Tower — a reminder of human creativity sustained by God’s grace. From there, we continue to the colorful coastal villages of Cinque Terre, where we enjoy an afternoon orientation walk and leisure time in one of its charming towns, taking in the beauty of seaside life that echoes the historic trade routes through which the Gospel quietly spread. Scripture reminds us, “Every good and perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17), inviting us to see both artistry and nature as reflections of God’s goodness. Overnight in La Spezia.

Day 10: FRIDAY Sept 25thLUCERNE (SWITZERLAND)

Today marks our transition from tracing the Apostle Paul’s missionary journey to exploring how the Christian faith continued to shape Europe after the early church era. As we travel north into Switzerland, we reflect on how the Gospel that reached Rome grew into communities, traditions, and movements that influenced generations. Passing Lake Lugano, we arrive in Lucerne — a historic Catholic stronghold during the Reformation, where traditional Christian life endured while nearby cities moved toward reform. We explore Lucerne’s Old Town, visiting the Jesuit Church — a symbol of renewed faith and education — along with Chapel Bridge and the Lion Monument. Surrounded by the beauty of the Alps, we appreciate God’s creation while preparing to follow the continuing story of Christian heritage and reform in the days ahead. Overnight in Lucerne.

Day 11: SATURDAY Sept 26thZERMATT – MATTERHORN

We drive to Täsch and take a shuttle train to Zermatt, the alpine village at the foot of the iconic Matterhorn — the mountain featured on Toblerone chocolate. Riding the Gornergrat Bahn, we take in panoramic views of these towering peaks, reflecting on faith as a lifelong journey — challenging, rewarding, and guided by God’s hand. In Zermatt village, we enjoy free time to explore, shop for souvenirs, and savor a chocolate tasting, celebrating fellowship and Swiss culture. The Alps remind us, as Paul taught, that creation reveals God’s power (Romans 1:20), and they prepare our hearts to continue tracing the story of Christian heritage and reform in the lands ahead. We conclude the day with a drive to Interlaken for overnight stay.

Day 12: SUNDAY Sept 27thJUNGFRAUJOCH – INTERLAKEN

We journey to Grindelwald Terminal and ride the Eiger Express Gondola, transferring by train at Eiger Glacier to reach Jungfraujoch — the “Top of Europe” — in just 47 minutes. Here we explore the Sphinx Observatory, Ice Palace, and snow plateau, pausing to reflect on God’s majesty and power revealed in creation. Descending to Interlaken, we enjoy a scenic cruise on Lake Brienz and take in views from Harder Kulm, overlooking the town and surrounding peaks. Along the way, we pass through Lauterbrunnen Valley and Isetwald Pier, landscapes that have inspired cinematic settings, including the Cloy film series, showcasing the dramatic beauty of the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by these majestic mountains, we are reminded of the steadfastness and perseverance of faith, much like the Alpine communities that endured and upheld Christian life during the Reformation. The grandeur of the Alps invites awe, reflection, and gratitude for God’s sustaining power. Overnight in Interlaken.
