Itinerary

DAY 1: Nov 02, SaturdayISTANBUL – IZNIK - BURSA

  • We arrive in Istanbul at 2:25PM
  • We meet with our guide and drive to Iznik. A city rich in history, culture, and natural beauty.
  • We visit Ancient İznik – was called Nicaea (or Nicea) and was primarily known for hosting the First Council of Nicea in 325AD (which later came to be known as the First and Seventh Ecumenical Councils of the Christian Church). During the council the Nicene Creed was formulated, a statement of belief used in Christian liturgy. While visiting Iznik, one can appreciate the historical significance of the city in relation to the formulation of the Nicene Creed and its impact on Christian theology.
  • We check in to Levor hotel in Bursa for dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: Nov 03, SundayIZNIK – CUNDA – AYVALIK

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we check out and begin our tour in Bursa.
  • We visit the Green Mosque, a stunning example of Ottoman architecture known for its intricate tile work and serene atmosphere. We proceed to the Silk Market, which is a hub for the local silk industry in Bursa. Here, we can explore and shop for a variety of silk products, from fabrics to garments, showcasing the city’s rich history and tradition in silk production.
  • We drive to the coastal town of Ayvalik and visit the Island of Cunda, we will explore the charming village with its historic stone houses, each telling a story of the past. Walk through the narrow streets lined with traditional architecture, learn about the craftsmanship and history behind these unique stone houses as we take in the picturesque surroundings.
  • We proceed to Halic Park Hotel for dinner and overnight in Ayvalik.

DAY 3: Nov 04, MondayAYVALIK– PERGAMUM-THYATIRA-SMYRNA-EPHESUS

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we drive to Bergama.
  • We will visit Pergamum, it is also listed as UNESCO World Heritage. Pergamon and its Multi-Layered Cultural Landscape is the site of a magnificent acropolis situated atop a high hill overlooking the modern town of Bergama.
  • We will visit Thyatira, the Church of Thyatira was told to persist in their beliefs, despite the lack of a strong church in the city.
  • We proceed to Izmir, we will visit Ancient Smyrna, Agora Ancient City. It was founded by the Greeks, taken over by the Romans, and rebuilt by Alexander the Great before becoming part of the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century.
  • We then drive to Richmond Ephesus Resort. Dinner at the hotel and overnight in Ephesus..

DAY 4: Nov 05, TuesdayEPHESUS-MILETUS-EPHESUS

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we will drive to Ancient Ephesus where St John lived. Ephesus was an important Roman city, the Church congregation here is believed to have been quite strong, with Christianity eventually becoming the city’s chief religion.
  • We proceed to the Basilica of St. John. After John was exiled to Patmos, it is believed that he came back to Ephesus before his death and passed his last years around Ayasuluk Hills. In the 6th century, Emperor Justinian (527-65 AD) believed that a tomb dating from the 300s was John’s, so he built a magnificent church on the site dedicated to the saint.
  • Today’s last visit will be in Miletus, a fascinating journey through ancient history and architectural marvels. We explore the well-preserved ruins of the ancient city, including the impressive theater, agora, and baths. Our guide provide insights into the city’s rich past as a prominent Greek and Roman settlement. Additionally, we can appreciate the intricate details of the Temple of Apollo, a significant religious site in Miletus.
  • We return to our hotel at Richmond Resort for dinner and overnight in Ephesus.

DAY 5: Nov 06, WednesdaySARDIS-PHILADELPHIA-LAODICEA-PAMUKKALE

  • After breakfast and check out, we visit Sardis. Sardis was one of the wealthiest Roman cities in the area. Home to a significant Jewish population, Sardis was a bustling city important to the growth of the Church in the area.
  • Proceed to Philadelphia. The Philadelphia was a thriving city under Roman rule. Modern-day Alasehir (God’s City) is a titular see of the Roman Catholic Church. Artifacts from Alasehir’s colorful past are found throughout the city.
  • We will drive to Laodicea in ancient times, which was a key city in the area. Important for trade and as an important Christian site.
  • We proceed to Adempira Hotel Pamukkale for dinner and overnight in Denizli.

DAY 6: Nov 07, ThursdayPAMUKKALE-ANTALYA

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the Ancient City of Hierapolis and Pamukkale travertines, located in southwestern Turkey, which are a natural wonder renowned for their unique and striking appearance. Pamukkale, which translates to “Cotton Castle” in Turkish, is a series of terraces made of white mineral-rich deposits formed over thousands of years. These terraces are created by the flow of thermal waters containing calcium carbonate, which solidifies and forms the dazzling white travertine formations. At the top of the travertines, you will find the ancient city of Hierapolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hierapolis was a thriving Roman city known for its thermal baths, theaters, and necropolis.
  • Then we drive to Antalya, a popular tourist destination known for its stunning beaches, historical sites, and vibrant culture. The Old Town of Antalya, known as Kaleici, is a charming area with narrow streets, Ottoman Era houses and historical Landmarks. We explore the ancient city walls, visit the iconic Hadrian’s Gate, and discover traditional shops and cafes. Then we proceed to Duden Waterfall, located just outside the city, which offers a picturesque setting with cascading waterfalls surrounded by lush greenery.
  • We check in for Dinner and Overnight at Holiday Inn, Lara in Antalya.

DAY 7: Nov 08, FridayANTALYA – KONYA

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we will drive to Konya.
  • On the way, we stop by at Ancient city of Perge, according to the book of Acts in the Bible, Paul the Apostle and his companion Barnabas twice visited Perge during their first missionary journey, where they ‘preached the word’ before heading for and sailing from Antalya city. We explore ancient ruins, such as the Roman amphitheater and the Agora, where Paul may have preached to the local population.
  • We follow Paul’s missionary journey to Pisidia Antioch, the place where Apostle Paul visited and spread Christianity, which was accepted as a pilgrimage center.
  • Dinner will be at Grand Konya hotel, followed by an overnight stay there.

DAY 8: Nov 09, SaturdayKONYA - CAPPADOCIA

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for Cappadocia.
  • On the way, we will have a photo stop by Sultanhani Caravansarai. It is a historical caravanserai that draws attention to its stonemasonry.
  • We proceed to Cappadocia, visit and experience wine tasting. Nestled in the heart of Turkey, Cappadocia is known for its unique landscapes, ancient cave dwellings, and of course, its exceptional wines. The tour begins with a visit to one of the renowned wineries in the region. As we arrive, we’ll be greeted by picturesque vineyards, set against the backdrop of Cappadocia’s distinctive rock formations. The knowledgeable and passionate staff will guide us through the winemaking process, sharing insights into the local grape varieties, cultivation techniques, and the region’s winemaking history.
  • We then visit the Underground City. Ensuring the security of the inhabitants is the main reason for the construction of the cities under the ground. We will have a chance to see where the people have lived during the wars, and natural disaster. After the tour, we will have photo stops in Pigeon Valley which is named after pigeon nests carved into rocks, Devrent Valley which is famous for its Camel Rock, and photo stop by Uchisar Castle which is the biggest fairy chimney seen from all over Cappadocia
  • We check in to Splendid Cave Hotel in Cappadocia for dinner and overnight.

DAY 9: Nov 10, SundayCAPPADOCIA

  • Optional: Hot Air Balloon Tour
    A hot air balloon tour in Cappadocia is a popular and breathtaking experience that allows participants to witness the stunning landscapes of the region from a unique vantage point. Once the balloon is inflated and ready for flight, passengers board the basket and the journey begins. As the balloon gently ascends into the sky, passengers are treated to panoramic views of Cappadocia’s iconic fairy chimneys, valleys, and rock formations. The surreal beauty of the landscape, especially during sunrise, creates a truly magical experience.
  • After breakfast at the hotel, we will visit Goreme Open Air Museum where we can enjoy the complex with rock cave churches, and houses. After that visit the Turkish Jewelery Store. The tour will continue by visiting the famous Carpet Workshop where we can see carpets decorated with motifs reflecting cultural richness of Anatolia and learn how to weave carpets.
  • We continue our tour in Pasabag Mushroom Valley, be mesmerized by the surreal landscape of towering rock formations, known as fairy chimneys, that resemble giant mushrooms. The valley is rich in history and culture, with ancient cave dwellings and churches carved into the soft volcanic rock. Lunch in a local restaurant.
  • We will visit Cavusin Village that is one of the oldest settlement in Cappadocia. We experience learning how to make a Seramik in a pottery workshop which is a tradition of 4000 years in Avanos.
  • We return to Splendid Cave hotel for Dinner and overnight in Cappadocia.

DAY 10: Nov 11, MondayCAPPADOCIA - ANKARA-BOLU

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we check out and drive to Ankara.
  • We stop at Anitkabir – a unique opportunity to explore the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkiye. The site serves as a symbol of Turkish independence and is a place of great historical significance.
  • We continue our drive to Salt Lake, also known as Lake Tuz, is a picturesque destination located in the Bolu province. It offers a serene and natural setting, making it a popular spot for tourists. The salt lake hosts hundreds of bird species, it also draws attention with its endemic plants. The lake itself is a stunning natural feature, known for its crystal-clear waters reflecting the surrounding landscape.
  • We will check in to Buyuk Abant hotel in Bolu, situated along the famous crater lake, Lake Abant. We can take a leisurely walk along the lakeside, enjoying the fresh air and peaceful ambiance. Dinner and overnight in Bolu.

DAY 11: Nov 12, TuesdayBOLU - ISTANBUL

  • After breakfast and check out, we will drive back to Istanbul.
  • Upon arrival in Istanbul, we will get on the Bosphorus Cruise. During the tour, we will have the chance to see both the European Side and the Asian Side of Istanbul. On the European Side, we will see many historical monuments and buildings such as; Galata Tower, Dolmabahce Palace, Ciragan Palace, Ortakoy Mosque, and Rumeli Fortress. On the Asian Side of Istanbul we see Kucuksu Palace which was built in the 19th century and used as a hunting lodge by the Ottoman Empire along with the Beylerbeyi Palace which was a summer palace for royal family.
  • We will walk to the Spice Bazaar from port which is one of the oldest covered bazaars in Istanbul. Today, inside the bazaar we can find spices, dried fruits, cheeses, sausages, jams, nuts and seeds, Turkish Delight, souvenirs, and more.
  • Before our special dinner, we will have a photo stop by the Galata Tower the symbol of Istanbul.
  • We proceed to Crowne Plaza hotel located inside the Old City of Istanbul for our overnight.

DAY 12: Nov 13, WednesdayISTANBUL / RETURN TO MANILA

  • After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and start Old Town Tour in “Sultan Ahmet Square” where the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires were ruled.
  • We will start the tour with Topkapi Palace. The Ottoman Palace, famous for being one of the most beautiful landscapes that make up Istanbul’s skyline, is a treasure trove of history on the historical peninsula.
  • We proceed to the Hippodrome of Constantinople. Previously, it was a circus that was the sporting and social centre of Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine Empire. Today it is still possible to see Obelisk(Egyptian Column); Serpentine Column; Constantine Column and German Fountain in this area which is used to be held for sports events (chariot races, athletics) and political activities of the old city.
  • We will have a short Photostop at Hagia Sophia Mosque; with its innovative architecture, rich history, religious significance, and extraordinary characteristics has been fighting against time for centuries, was the largest Eastern Roman Church in Istanbul. Constructed three times in the same location, it is the world’s oldest and fastest-completed cathedral.
  • We continue the tour with a photo stop by the Blue Mosque, also known as Sultanahmet Mosque, famous for its beautiful blue tiles inside the mosque.
  • We will move to Balat. The most iconic part of Balat is the district’s colorful houses along sloping cobbled streets. These homes are mostly over 50-years-old, and in some cases are up to 200-years-old. These historic wooden homes are amongst the most photographed buildings in the city, and given its popularity many of these streets now feature cafés and restaurants for you to stop off at and admire the setting. During the walking tour, we will visit Greek Orthodox Patriarchate; The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Istanbul in the Fener district is a world center of Christianity. We will have photo stop by Fener Greek High School which is known in Greek as the Great School of the Nation is the oldest surviving and most prestigious Greek Orthodox school in Istanbul. And proceed the tour by visiting Sveti Stefan Church; Istanbul’s iconic “Iron Church” marks its 124th year as the world’s only surviving completely iron church.
  • If time allows, we will stop by Ortakoy for our free time and own exploration before heading to the airport for our flight back to Manila.
  • We drive for airport check-in at 6:00PM for our flight back to Manila.
  • We transit in Dubai and arrive in Manila the next day.
  • We go home with grateful hearts, we will never read the Bible the same way again.
